The cheaper, the better, but it has to work with typeC-to-typeC cables. So any options that save money by skipping the second pull-down resistor on the Type-C port are a no-go.

Thanks to disassembly videos, now it makes sense why there is no barebone option

Accessing storage is easy, but, holy moly, accessing RAM looks so involved. I mean, pretty sure I can do it, but some average Joe will definitely rip one of those 4(!) ribbon cables.

It looks like Valve engineers had fun solving those engineering challenges with multiple PCBs, sandwiching components together and placing I/O boards on sides and connecting them with ribbon cables. Almost as if they are building portfolio to become Apple hardware engineer.

I wish they've chosen more conservative approach, where you can easily access both storage and RAM. It would've also opened possibility for barebone option. But right now with current hardware design releasing barebone option is a certain "death by thousand cuts RMAs".

RDNA 2 users, does your GPU survive wake from S3 sleep?

I have DIY Steam Machine-like with 6600XT and from time to time for the last 4-5 months I try to migrate to SteamOS. But every time when I try it, none of the branches (Stable/Beta/Main) are able to wake GPU from S3 sleep, fans are spinning, everything seemingly works, but GPU hangs and never shows a picture. This week I tried again because of new updates that are being shipped, but all three branches have same S3 bug on my GPU. Interestingly enough, neither Bazzite Deck version and CachyOS Handheld Edition has such problems.

The sad part is that I thought I was being smart when buying 6600XT instead of 7600(I know that Steam Machine will use mobile version 7600M), because it is at least 30% cheaper for the same performance and Steam Deck uses RDNA 2 APU, so I will be first-class citizen on SteamOS.

P.S. It is not motherboard+GPU pairing issue, since I sidegraded motherboard+CPU and the problem still persists.

I built Pico 2W firmware that wakes PC by USB and WoL if it detects BLE gamepad/device

It serves small configuration page via browser where you can set up multiple BLE devices that can trigger wake event (no software/drivers required). It can wake by USB not just from Sleep (S3), but also Shutdown (soft-off, S5) on compatible motherboards (mainly Asrock&MSI). For other motherboard vendors I have implemented sending WoL signal over home Wi-Fi. But you should properly configure WoL both in BIOS and in Windows.

P.S. Pico W also supported, but I do not have one to test it.
P.P.S. Bluetooth Classic-only devices (DualSense, DualShock 4, Switch Pro) does not work.
