Explain complex prep like I am 5 PLEASE

Just finished OMS-I and realized I know absolutely nothing about COMLEX prep. I keep hearing about First Aid, UWorld, Sketchy, Pathoma, Anki, TrueLearn, etc., but I have no idea what resources I should actually use or when to use them.

Can someone give me a simple step-by-step timeline from the start of OMS-II until exam day? What resources should I prioritize, when should I start question banks, and what would you do differently if you could start over?

Assume I'm starting from zero knowledge about board prep. Any advice is appreciated!

nervous

Hi everyone,

I just finished my first year of medical school and recently found out that I am in the last quartile of my class. It was honestly pretty discouraging to see, especially because I am interested in anesthesia and I know it has become more competitive.

I am trying not to spiral, but I also want to be realistic and make changes early. I wanted to ask if anyone has been in a similar position after M1 and was able to move up academically during M2. Is it possible to improve class rank significantly, or is it very difficult once you start off low? I am willing to completely change my study approach and put in the work. I am also planning to focus on doing well in M2, preparing early for boards, and getting involved in research if possible.

For those who matched anesthesia or applied with a weaker start academically, what helped you recover? What should I focus on from here: grades, board prep, research, networking, away rotations, or something else?

I would really appreciate any honest advice.

Edit: havent failed any classes but have been pretty close to it in 2 of them

research

HHello everyone! I’m a rising second-year medical student and have been looking to get involved in research. I’m very new to the research world and honestly know very little about the different types of projects. I met with a research mentor at my school, and when I asked what I should do, she basically said, “Whatever you want to do.” Since I didn’t know much, I suggested doing a literature review, and she agreed.

However, a mentor who is a year above me recently told me that literature reviews don’t carry much value, which has me wondering if I just wasted my summer. I will be presenting a poster on this project in the fall, but I’m curious to hear others’ thoughts. Is a literature review still worthwhile, especially as someone just starting out in research? I know that something is better than nothing, but I’m still wondering if I should have pursued a different type of project.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated
