No insulin for 12 hours, what's going on?
I am a type 1 diabetic, diagnosed about 20 years ago, I am 35 years old. I have an insulin pump with Novorapid, I don't take any long acting insulin.
Last night some time, at least 12 hours ago, I accidentally pulled the pump off while I was asleep. When I woke up I found the pump completely detached from me. I was meaning to refill the pump and reattach it this morning but I forgot and then went out for the day and only just got home. So it has been over 12 hours since I last had any insulin.
I had two pieces of toast with jam for breakfast and a big lunch of meat and salads, and potato, not a huge amount of carbs but definitely had some carbs.
My blood sugar all day (measured by a dexcom CGM) has never gone above 20, it has been sitting around 12-18 for most of the day. I checked my ketones just now and got a reading of 0.1. I also just did a manual blood glucose test strip reading, which was 11.2.
How is this happening and I am not even close to DKA? I thought being a type 1 diabetic I would be in serious trouble by now without insulin for that long?
How can I be a type 1 diabetic (confirmed presence of anit GAD antibodies on two different blood tests) and be so ok without insulin for this long?
Thanks in advance.
