Moving to Pokhara as a digital nomad — what's the real scene like? (video editor transitioning into SaaS)

Hey Pokhara folks 👋

I'm planning to shift to Pokhara in the coming months as a digital nomad and trying to figure out the logistics before I make the move.

A bit about me: I'm a freelance video editor (short-form, YouTube content) and I'm slowly transitioning into building SaaS products on the side. Video editing is currently paying the bills (barely lol), so I'm not rolling in money but I'm not broke either. Pokhara feels like the right move; lower cost of living, good vibes, and ideally a community of people working on similar stuff.

A few things I'm trying to figure out:

  • 1 BHK cost — What's a decent 1BHK running for, within 1–3km from Lakeside/city center? Furnished vs unfurnished difference? Any areas to target or avoid?
  • Hostel dorms — Is this a smarter short-term option while I get settled? Any nomad-friendly hostels with good wifi and a work-friendly vibe?
  • Shared flats — Are there any digital nomads already based there looking for a flatmate? Open to this if the setup makes sense.
  • General expenses — Rough monthly budget for a simple lifestyle? (rent + food + internet + misc)
  • Internet reliability — How's the fiber situation? Any ISPs worth recommending?

Also genuinely curious: Is there much of a remote work / indie hacker scene in Pokhara? Or is it mostly tourists passing through? Would love to know if there are co-working spots, or even just cafes where people actually sit and grind.

If you're already based in Pokhara as a digital nomad, freelancer, or are building something online — would love to connect. Especially if you're into video content, SaaS, or just the indie maker lifestyle in general.

Drop a comment or DM. Appreciate any help 🙏
