what welcome week/orientation events should I try to go to/are useful as a commuter and 1st year eng student?

what kind of laptop should i be looking to have for first year eng? does a i5/16gb ram/256gb ssd windows laptop work?

are online courses looked at as the same as an in person course when it comes to second year specialization. for example if i take a psychology elective online instead of in person will 2nd year specialization departments (eng) weight the online and in person course gpa the same or are in person courses favoured by 2nd year departments
