Tips for sending 'originals' to the BVA

Hey Sub....after about 2.5 months of hunting/gathering, I have obtained all the documents I need for my family's (Mother, Brother, Myself) Feststellung application. I'm preparing the mailing and I was just wondering if anyone had some tips to share. Here are some questions:

  1. I dont live near a General Consulate in the US (live in Denver, but not sure what is going on with the Honorary Consulate here...they appear to being having significant technical issues and aren't able to hold appointments until November 2? I was planning on using them to make a copy of my Applications/Documents.
  2. Odds of a package getting lost if sent via DHL? Tips for sending via DHL, appreciated.
  3. Should I send a copy of my mother's divorce decree? It the marriage ended 9 years after my younger brother's birthdate so it really doesn't impact the lineage.
  4. I currently don't have the Naturalization Certificate of my GGF, but I have the complete Naturalization Petition that has the oath of allegiance completed with the certificate number. (I'm currently requesting the certificate)
  5. For the Section 13 of Antrag F (last known address in Germany), I put "unbekannt" because I'm still trying to hunt down that information. (I'm thinking Meldorf because that is what is on his Ship Manifest record, but the Meldorf Archives hasn't completed my request for the Melderegister yet...my GGF also listed Windbergen and Nortorf on naturalization documents lol) Any issues with using unbekannt at the moment?
  6. Any other last-minute tips for sending to the BVA. :) Can't wait to start the 2-3 year processing period lol

Certified Copy of German Birth Certificate

Hey Community! So far I have all the documents I need, but have been having issues with getting a response from the Archive in Brunsbüttel. Per Archion records, my Great Grandfather was born in Belmermoor on June 4 1885, so my document should be with the city of Brunsbüttel Archives per my research. I reached out to the Archives in Brunsbüttel late July but never even received an acknowledgement for my request. I sent a follow up today (9/1), 5 weeks after my inital request. Do I have any other options while I wait? Examples:

  1. reach out to district or state archives to see if they can help?

  2. submit application and then send the birth cert once it's received? I could send the archion image as a placeholder?

  3. hire someone in the Dithmarschen district to obtain it?

  4. Im just being impatient and need to wait 😅

Thanks for any advice/words of wisdom.

Locating proof of German Citizen for Great Grandfather

Hey all!

Im working on applying for my German certificate of citizenship by Ancestry. (It actually has been a bit fun hunting down all these documents for the most part) Im currently having issues locating my Great Grandfathers proof document for german citizenship. He was born in 1885 in/around Brünsbuttel, Germany. How/what should I do to obtain this documentation...it's my final piece in my puzzle. Here is my lineage:

Great Grandfather

- born 1885

- emigrated to USA in 1912

- Married in 1913

- Had my Grandfather in 1915

- Naturalized in the USA in 1922

Grandfather

-born in 1915

-married in 1945

-Had my mother in 1954

Mother

-born in 1954

-Married in 1984

-I was born in 1988

-brother in 1990

-she divorced in 1999

Me

-born in 1988

-not married

I have all the certified documents/proofs, but just working on getting apostilles on the documents and finding my Greag Grandfather's Birth Certificate, but it has been difficult to do from the states, imo...any support or suggestions?

Thanks!!
