Stranded: Alien Dawn now has working settlement, planet-switching and space!

I'm Henrique, the original developer of Beyond Stranded for Stranded: Alien Dawn.

I posted the first 24-person settlement prototype here about a week and a half ago. Since then I've finished the technical feasibility work for the larger direction of the mod, so I put together this development showcase.

At prototype level I now have:

• larger population and settlement management

• background simulation for settlements

• multiple persistent locations

• switching between planetary locations

• space travel

The important distinction is that these are prototypes, not announced release features. I built them specifically to test whether Stranded's systems and modding framework could support the long-term direction before I committed to producing it properly. So far, the major technical assumptions have worked.

The goal remains to preserve Stranded's named survivors as important individual characters while allowing the civilization around them to grow much larger.

The current public Workshop build is still the restored/stabilized version of Beyond Stranded. The city and space systems in the video are development work.

I’m expanding Stranded: Alien Dawn beyond small survivor colonies into larger settlements

Hey everyone, I'm Henrique, the developer of Beyond Stranded, an overhaul mod for Stranded: Alien Dawn.

I recently returned to the project after several years away. After spending the first update repairing the old mod and getting it stable again, I've started prototyping the direction I originally wanted to take it: allowing colonies to grow beyond a handful of individually managed survivors.

The settlement in these screenshots currently has 24 procedurally generated inhabitants as well as keeping the original named survivors, but I'm experimenting with a lighter population layer alongside them so settlements can eventually grow much larger without requiring the player to micromanage every single person.

Right now the prototype includes:

- generic citizens with individual records

- three tiers of low-density housing

- housing capacity and assignment

- workplaces and job assignment

- basic hunger and rest simulation

- citizens moving between their homes and workplaces

- an early settlement-management interface

The grey buildings are intentionally simple blockouts. I'm concentrating on getting the simulation and management systems working before spending time on final modular art.

The longer-term goal is to see how far I can push Stranded toward permanent settlements, larger populations, production, logistics and eventually city-scale management while still keeping the named survivors relevant.

This is still early development, not a released city update.

The original Beyond Stranded is back in active development here:
