Amanita
As I understand it, this isn’t the rarest mushroom out there, but living in Raleigh, NC it’s actually pretty tough to find legal foraging spots. That said, I do see these fairly often on trails this time of year. Definitely one of the deepest, prettiest colors I’ve come across, so I felt like i needed to share it with people who’d appreciate it.
Haven’t actually tried Amanita jacksonii yet, but I did pick one from my yard today and took a small nibble (spit it out). Honestly… not bad at all. Curious how you all prepare these—would love to hear how people cook them.
Also, if anyone here has experience with the true Caesar’s mushroom (Amanita caesarea in Europe), I’d love to hear about it.
PSA: Don’t trust me on ID. I’m going off research and what I’ve seen in my area, but I’m definitely not a mycologist and could be totally wrong. Amanitas are no joke—some of them really don’t mess around if you get it wrong.
