I am glad Muslim woman are finally getting to exercise their rights provided by the government. Kudos to Democracy!
This is the article from the Hindu
As a Ex-Muslim feminist myself and Uttarakhandi I can't tell you how much joy it brings to me when I came across this news because I know the situation of woman specially muslim woman that is not talked or discussed about enough in this country despite being 240 million of us.
A big reason for that is misogyny disguised in the name of religion and on top of that when even the government denies to provide support and exercise its rightful duties just to keep up with their false notion of secularism and religious harmony
It results are- Oppression
and woman are always the worst hit victims of silencing and such kind of oppression and patriarchy where not only this misogyny is dictated by the religion but even the justice system is handed over in the hands of religious clerics who dictate that.
Which is why woman like me are big fans of movies like Haq because they dare to showcase a reality to the masses which otherwise the dalals and flag bearers of religion would not permit
Many people including muslim women were initially against UCC but today we see them exercising and making use of their rights simply because of that one step that the government took in providing them basic human rights and an option besides the existing muslim personal laws and rights.
UCC is need of an hour for muslim women and it is a feminist choice to demand for it!
