Is Drilling vocabulary helpful?

I'm from the Dreaming Spanish side of things where they say drilling vocab is a waste of time...but is that actually true? It seems to me that it could be very helpful and I'm going to start this week trying to memorize idioms and some prepositions that I strggule with. Did/ does it help you guys who have done it? .......thanks for your input.

Chris Tucker's Def Jam set made him a superstar. Would this still work today?

I recently watched an old Chris Tucker clip on Def Jam and was surprised by it. It's said that set made him a movie star. This is maybe the best example I've seen of "just ok" writing but insane performance ability. https://youtu.be/PJzVKdh4_D4?si=1GhVT7LKcWGpQD-7

Any good workbooks, resources or drills to improve Spanish.

I have 750 hours of listening practice with Dreaming Spanish and it's working...but I feel like I could be doing more to speed my learning up a bit. Can anybody recommend anything...like maybe paper workbooks, drills to learn faster. I struggle to translate quickly when I hear sentences with reflexsive verbs or pronouns before the verbs, even verb tenses. I'd like to focus on that and also just expand my vocabulary. Thanks so much!!

How many hours were you at before you 100% understood the podcasts?

I'm at 750 hours and still have trouble understanding the podcasts. Some are easier to me than others but they always seem harder to me than the other intermediate videos. I don't know why, but to me, they seem harder than many advanced videos. At what hour level were you guys when you could understand them effortlessly? Thanks

The hardest part is of Spanish for me is "le dije" Having the pronouns in the opposite order. Is there a drill or exercise to fix this?

I'm 750 hours into DS but this is the thing that trips me up. Pronouns in opposite orders from English. Has anybody found a way to train their brain to get used to this?

Why do (some) comics seem to look down on storytelling?

I do standup. There's another comic I've done a lot of sets with for a few years. He's considered a good comic. He writes a lot of jokes about pop culture, politics, dating etc and people laugh. One night after a show, we were having a beer and he was telling a story about going skiing. He'd never been before. He crossed his ski's and wiped out, taking out some Mom and little kids with him in front of a lineup.

It was, (to me) the funniest thing I've ever heard him say. I told him that and he was PISSED! He said, of all the jokes you've heard me say, THAT'S the funniest thing!?

I said "yeah... your story was unintentional and real." You weren't TRYING to be funny" or make some point about society.

He told me he didn't consider it to be something stage worthy.

Now, I personally think good relatable storytelling is so much funnier than jokes...even brilliant, witty, edgy, well crafted jokes, but I realize that this guy (and it seems MOST aspiring comics) think the joke writing is the big thing to strive for. Can comics on here explain why that is?

This lady has a great YouTube channel for intermediate learners.

I'm 730 hours into DS. Love them all but need some variety. I found this Mexican, native speaking lady and for me, this is the perfect channel. Her videos are interesting and her speed is just about right for me to keep improving. Tell me what you think.

Dreaming Spanish works! In Mexico I worked the shower with no issues!

I got the hot and cold taps figured out IN SPANISH. I can't believe I'm actually doing it! Tomorrow I will order a Cocoa Cola, IN SPANISH. I'm nervous, but I know I can do it. After that, I'm going to negotiate with the cartel. Wish me luck.

Best computer shop in town?

Having trouble exporting i tunes music to an old school Ipod shuffle. Apparently Windows 11 doesn't support it. My computer knowledge is limited. Where would be a good place to find help in Nanaimo. Thank you so much.

Grinding through L 50-65 with a new technique that seems to work for me.

In a given video, some sentences I understand effortlessly (because I heard it so many times). Other sentences, (even in the same video or paragraph) I understand almost nothing. I will replay that part until I understand it. Most of the time, I will eventually get it without using subtitles. Usually, it turns out that I understand all of the words individually but the new word pattern (sentence) will be foreign to my brain. The next time I hear that sentence, my brain will often times recognize it. This form of watching takes a high level of focus and concentration...and it may take me much longer to complete a video but it seems to speed up my comprehension more than just watching and going to the next video. Has anybody else tried this method? If so, how has it been working out for you? Thanks for your input.
