I’m a 10-month contract school employee currently undergoing an EI audit regarding the summer shutdown period. I’m looking for insight into how Service Canada handles cases where travel was not correctly declared on reports.

I’ve already decided on full transparency regarding the dates I was out of the country. My main concern isn't the repayment of the overpayment, I'm prepared to handle that. But rather the long-term impact on my EI eligibility.

For those familiar with this process: How does a violation typically affect future seasonal claims for school staff? Is there a specific way to present a voluntary disclosure at this stage to minimize the impact on future eligibility? I’m hoping to resolve this as smoothly as possible to keep my standing for next year's shutdown.

Also is this something consulting a lawyer would be worthwhile for?
