Hello everyone, got a call from my service advisor this afternoon stating that my ‘23 GTI (DSG) with only 17K miles needs a new cylinder head per VW Techline. Car was dropped at the dealership about a week or so ago with a reoccurring CEL light and what appears to be multiple cylinder misfires DTCs logged. Car had been previously back to service a couple of weeks earlier for a check engine light and P304 DTC for a misfire logged in cylinder 4. During that repair visit, a new cyl 4 coil was installed and fuel additive added. Car ran fine for approx 2 weeks until last week. In the 3 and a half years I have owned this vehicle since new, never had an issue. Car has been meticulously driven and maintained by the VW dealership. 93 octane Shell V-Power gas it’s all I have ever used in this car. 100% bone stock, no mods. I am at a loss as to why this vehicle needs major engine work at this low mileage. Anyway, dealer has been diligent, loaner vehicle provided but service advisor stated that he is in the process of finding out if the cylinder head replacement is available in the parts system or back ordered. I thought the EA888 Gen 4 was bulletproof but looks like I managed to get a dud. Warranty is covering the repair 100%.
Main concerns are quality of repair but more importantly if cylinder head can be sourced at all. If this is a 6-12 month ordeal waiting for a part, I am considering initiating a buyback with VW. I am bummed as I love the car. Anyone else has experienced a premature cylinder head failure in the MK8? What would you do? Open to suggestions. Thanks for reading.
