So I’ve been seeing a lot of content on how you can’t be a feminist while being religious. I have a female friend who labels herself as a ‘feminist’ and somehow I would agree and disagree with that because she has been proactively shown to have been an advocate for women’s rights. But one thing that I’ve noticed is that despite her claim of being a ‘feminist’ she still upholds values from her religion. She’s a hardcore Christian and she believes that women should still wear modest clothes, you know, the whole cover-up, don’t drsw attention to yourself, respect your body as a temple kind of stuff. And it’s not just the modesty thing blabla yk old stuff like that.
Tbh, I’m really confused about whether she can actually qualify as a feminist because it seems that her definition of feminism is very selective. Bruh and let’s be honest, Christianity is a male-centered religion and has been oppressing women for a long time based on their doctrines. It feels like she wants the label without the actual critical stance that feminism requires esp the willingness to challenge power structures, including religious ones.
And I’ve tried to respect her perspective, but the more I think about it, the more I feel like she’s picking and choosing what works for her👹👹👹👹👹
