Guineapig loss of appetite after stone removal surgery

He passed away
Update: Vet is going to cremate him free of charge

My guinea pig had a surgery the other day to remove a stone. I dropped him off at 7:30 in the morning and got him back around five in the afternoon today. He’s been eating pretty good until now. I gave him gabapentin this morning at 10:55 apparently that is supposed to make him drowsy and not move a lot however, right now he’s extremely drowsy. I tried to feed him critical care and he wasn’t really wanting to eat it. He just pancakes out and he lower his head I tried to call my vet, but they told me they’d rather get back to me tonight or tomorrow. Has anybody ever experienced this with their guinea pig after surgery? I’ve been feeding him every three hours.

Stone removal suregry

Update: He survived the Surgery! Now on the path to recovery!

I’m unsure if anybody will see this post, but I could really use some advice for my guinea pig. He is a male and he’s close to turning six years old. If not already, I took him to the vet because I found blood in his bedding. He has had issues before with a kidney stone and it was not removed at the time. I thought he had passed it, but he did not. He doesn’t have any medical issues as far as I know, I haven’t gotten any blood work done but the vet reassured me that his heart and lungs sounded healthy. They didn’t comment anything about his weight so I’m assuming everything was fine. He has a surgery scheduled for tomorrow August 17 and I’ve been reading up on it and I’ve learned that older guinea pigs don’t have the best survival rate if I don’t get the surgery he will pass away if I do get the surgery there there’s a chance he can live. Doss anybody have advice? I did accidentally purchased the wrong pellets that contained alfalfa but other than that, his diet consist of hay and the occasional greens. they are testing his urine and are going to let me know if it is also a UTI and they did prescribe him pain medication and an antibiotic just in case. He is still eating and drinking fine and seems to be moving around normally.

Edit:
After reading your comments, I am going to go through with the surgery, even if there’s a chance he could pass away I know his quality of will continue to go down if I do not go through with the surgery and he will be in pain. My vet did not seem concerned at all with him getting the surgery done at this point, I can only pray to God (and if you believe I would appreciate some prayers) and love on him in the moment. From the x-ray she had taken it looked like it was higher up and not in a difficult position. If he does make it through the surgery, does anybody have recommendations on how to not make him chew on his stitches? I’ve seen some people use cones on their guinea pigs but I’ve also heard that’s really bad for them because they cannot eat their poop and they need to do that. I don’t really see him messing with his stitches because he’s overall calm but I thought I might ask just in case. I would also love some recommendations for a lower calcium diet. I just bought some oxbow pellets today that are supposed to be lower in calcium. I believe I read that someone also uses low calcium water I have no idea what makes water low in calcium. My vet also recommended Oxbow tablets for urinary health and I’m going to invest in those as well. Thank you so much for all your feedback. I really appreciate it. It has helped me rationalize my thoughts and calm my anxiety. My guinea pig has never had a surgery before and I’m very nervous for him. 🫶

In the event that he does pass away, how should I go about caring for my other guinea pig? I know he really loves his brother and I got him when he was very young so I believe he’s very attached. If my piggy was to pass away, should I look into getting a female or a male?

I’m going to post the list of things they gave me that they plan on doing in the comments.
