feeding early

feeding early

so today i was spending the day out and didn’t know when i would be back so i gave the guinea pigs their salad earlier in the day. they won’t stop squeaking now because they’re used to eating at night. what should i do? they’ve already had two cups of veggies, their daily amount of pellets, unlimited hay, and their vitamin c. should i just leave them squeaking?

Gender ?

Cookie was not impressed with me for this but I have been stumped. I thought Cookie was a female and then was told he was a male - now I’m not sure🤣🤦🏼‍♀️!!

Can anyone tell me if he likes this?

I can’t tell if he’s popcorning or trying to push me off, he usually falls asleep when I scratch his head

possible re-home, in distress and unknowing of what to do..

I just made a post a few days ago because my three males (to my knowledge) were doing so well. I had one bonded pair and placed my newest piggie in his own enclosure that was within distance and view of the bonded pair. all was well, so i thought.

I left out for the evening (my mother was home and would check the piggies occasionally) and all was well. i changed the linen, spot cleaned, gave extra hay and some of their favorite treats.

my mom gave biscuit (one of my piggies and her favorite) extra cuddles this morning and there was nothing out of the sorts.

I got home midday and went to pick up biscuit to give him his cuddles and i noticed he was on the opposite side of the enclosure which was weird because him and Peanut Butter are usually around each other. After picking him up, I noticed the injury immediately! it was fresh, like it just recently happened 30 or so minutes ago as it was still bleeding. his ear is split down the middle. i wanted to cry. i have no idea why peanut butter lashed out so aggressively at biscuit, especially since ginger is in his separate enclosure. i can no longer keep peanut butter and biscuit together, this is a huge injury and im sure biscuit is traumatized! i already called an emergency vet clinic and me and my boyfriend are on our way to take him there now.

I can not stop crying, biscuit is so tiny and as much as i love Peanut Butter, I have to do what’s best for all my piggies. I do not have enough space to make ANOTHER separate enclosure. i can divide the current one i already have but i can’t make another seperate one. i dont have the living space for that.

My mom and boyfriend said not to go off of emotion and immediately surrender peanut butter, but i am just sad and confused and i dont know what to do. i will see what the vet says but i am hoping some from the reddit community can give me advice on how to proceed.

(i did clean biscuits ear with a wet cloth to stop the bleeding and applied wound care before we left for the em-vet. I fed him his veggies and because it’s hot, i have ice water in a bottle to give him as well.)

pictures of the injury and biscuit will be posted.

UPDATE: vet said that because the tear is deep, i have one of two options; a suture (but the cost will creep up especially since he needs anesthesia) OR daily pain medication and antibiotics to prevent infection with twice a day cleaning but his ear will be split and will most likely not heal back. more to come soon!

Please help

I have a guinea pig, and about three months ago, a bald strip appeared on his nose—I don't understand why. He also scratches quite often, though I haven't noticed any lice, redness, or sores from the scratching. However, I start itching when I hold him, whereas my mom doesn't itch when she holds him. Plus, he chatters his teeth... honestly, I just don't know what to do and I'm really worried. Should I take him to the vet? If so, could you recommend a specialist for rodents (ratologist) in St. Petersburg?

Sings

My piggy isn’t eating his hay or his pellets and I noticed that he basing had water today either, he had water. He’s old and has gray hair, so is this a sign he’s dying of old age?

Reddish urine

My guinea who is a 5 year old female with a very large inoperable tumor had a strangely colored pee this morning. She didn’t cry or seem to be in pain when it happened. I also haven’t given red veggies or food out of the ordinary except for recent pear sticks which she ate quite a few of.

How emergent would this be and is a vet visit required? I hope to not take her to the vet unless ABSOLUTELY necessary. Due to her respiratory issues from the tumor, last time I took her to the vet the stress caused her to hyperventilate and turn blue and she had to be put on oxygen. It was very traumatic. The vet is closed though until Monday so I won’t be able to hear back from them until then.

EDIT: I just watched her pee again and it came out yellow and then after approx 10 seconds it turned red. I feel like it’s not blood now, but I’ve never seen this happen before.

Repost with video. Piggy had a breathy weep?

PLEASE ignore my set up this was for the first 2 days while I waited for my Amazon packages to come with their stuff. But I had my pigs for two weeks now, they are healthy, active, playful, curious, good eaters and one of them “weep!”s in excitement for treats! (It’s only the black and white one) But his weeps sound like there’s like air in it? Or like he’s lost his voice kinda? It’s always sounded that way since day 1, does he just have a weird voice? He doesn’t breathe funny or make the sound any other time only when he’s really excited and making “weep”s

Guinea pig pellets

Hello,

I am currently trying to feed my guinea pigs oxbow garden select adult guinea pig pellets. This was switched from oxbow young guinea pig pellets ( they were eating this when I rescued them 2 weeks ago but they are 2.5 years old). They are not wanting to eat it. Can I please get some recommendations on good quality guinea pig pellets.

Urgent advice needed

Starting this morning I noticed my 1 and a half year old guinea pig Timmy, wasn’t acting his usual gregarious self. He was acting different and I also noticed he hardly touched his water, I picked him up from his cage and he didn’t try to fight being picked up. I gave him a cucumber and he chomped at it but didn’t really eat it. I did an exam and noticed his 2 top teeth are gone. Timmy loves floor time and can be a bar chewer when he wants to escape his cage for an adventure but that’s the only thing I think could have happened.

Anyways I immediately panicked and called my vet but they closed early for the day so I left a message, then I went to buy some critical care and syringes. I came back home and started feeding critical care at like 8pm, he was doing ok with the spoon feeding but I can tell he’s in pain and uncomfortable. He wants to stay with me and backs up into my legs when I go to move. I’m scared that the vets will be closed tomorrow for the 4th of July and I live in a rural area with few vets accepting guinea pigs. He’s hit or miss with the critical care, sometimes he’ll eat it sometimes he’ll fuss about it.

Does anyone have any tips or tricks or advice for dealing like something like this. I’m fairly new to owning pigs as an adult and trying to do right by Timmy but seeing him in pain is making me feel horrible. Thanks in advance!

I caught a guinea fart. I think? (volume up)

https://reddit.com/link/1ulual7/video/e8e9ifpznvah1/player

Never heard that before.

Spot on the left here made this sound twice after waking up this morning. I couldn't tell who made that sound at first so I set up the camera and watched them for a solid hour to get this. While waiting I looked it up out of panic and she is fine. Not showing signs of being bloated at all, still eating, drinking, and zooming around just fine. All behaviors are the same. She still thinks she is 10 feet tall and invincible.

Anyone else hear a guinea fart before? Almost sounds like a quack I think, or at least that's how I could describe it lol

How would you describe a guinea fart?

Urgent rehoming

Hello! My husband and I have three female guinea pigs. We got two of them together, and the last one about a month later!

The first picture is cinderella, she is super calm, but sometimes spicy when she wants to be left alone lol.

The second picture is tiana! She is an absolute sweetheart, she is super calm, mostly likes to relax and she is a big foodie!

The last picture is jasmine, she is super sweet as well, she loves to run and play more than the other two.

I love all three of these girls to death, but unfortunately we have been struggling a lot financially. And with the extreme heat wave the past two weeks, it has been super super hot in the house all the time. We only have two small a/c‘s, which don’t do too much. I want the best for these girls, and right now that unfortunately isn’t us. We can’t afford groceries for us, mainly putting the girls first, but we can’t do that anymore. They don’t get the interaction that they used to get, we both work two jobs and are barely home anymore. I really want them to go to a good home, someone who will play with them, feed them all their favorite foods, and has better a/c than us lol. You can take all the food and hay we have for them, water bottles, hides, etc. The only thing we’d like to keep is the cage we have, we are giving it to a friend for their new puppy.

We are located near Monroe, Michigan. If anyone is interested or knows anyone who is, please comment or message me.

I have heard that it’s best to do rehoming fees, I am willing to talk about that with someone who is interested in taking them in. We are willing to meet halfway as long as we can afford the gas to get to you!
