What is the best first credit card?

For context, I am a 22 year old University student who is about to finish his masters degree at the end of June. I live solely off of the maintenance loan from SFE, but plan to get a decent paying job (~30k p year) with my degree.

Im trying to look ahead to boost my credit score so things like mortgages are easy to negotiate, so want to open my first credit card.

However, with almost all credit card eligibility checkers on several banks, I was ineligible to open one, most likely due to the fact I have never owned a credit card before.

When I obtain a credit card, I intend to spend VERY minimal amounts and pay it off as soon as I can, to boost my credit score. The credit card would NOT be my main spending card.

So, two main questions. Which credit card is recommended for your initial credit card, and is it even worth it to boost your credit score for safety for the future?
