[TOMT] Tumblr short story about a dog turned into a metal war machine that becomes a protector of a village
Hey everyone I’m looking for a Tumblr/Reddit short story (99% certain it was tumblr) about a dog that was turned into war machine.
It fought wars for a while but eventually it finds a village and sticks around.
It only trusted children because they figured kids were safe since it had never seen them in war before. The village children would throw sticks for it and bring it flowers, and over time it became the village guardian instead of a weapon. This went on for generations- everytime one lot of kids would grow up into adults, the dog guardian would hide from them since they were no longer children and trust worthy, but it always played with new kids. It also protected the village from any war that came its way. The ending was bittersweet, after years its metal joints rusted and locked up, so it “died”/became a statue for the town. I think the ending revealed it as like being loosely based/namesaked after a famous dog? The ending line was something like “And the villagers called it blank (insert famous dog name here)”
It was a very short story. I had a printed version and it was only like 2-4 A4 pages long.
