Barrier Technique: Nova

A barrier technique first developed by Kasumi Miwa some years after Shinjuku Showdown.

Nova was created as a supplement for existing barrier techniques, and follows in the footsteps of an open domain expansion: The idea effects normally restricted to the interior of a barrier could exist without one.

In Miwa's case, this thought process took a simpler sidestep for ease of use and mastery: The idea effects normally restricted to the interior of a barrier could persist without one, even if only momentarily.

As though to imagine ordinary barrier techniques as a water bottle, Nova would be the water escaping its restraints - the bottle - for momentary effects.

First, a barrier must be made for the water - the technique normally restricted within the barrier, such as a simple domain or domain expansion - to be poured into.

Additionally, the user decides in the moment of casting: That at some point, the barrier will go nova (Occasionally through audible deceleration, such as "Simple Domain - Nova" for the purposes of increased output through denying secrecy, though the latter is still possible) through the implementation of several vows.

These vows are as follows:

  • The barrier will begin to gradually decrease in size, compacting techniques within it.
  • Techniques within move as far away from the center as possible, naturally consolidating around the barrier's inner perimeter.
  • The barrier will allow anyone to exit and enter the barrier freely, effectively allowing it to phase right though them.

As the barrier grows smaller and smaller and the technique pushes against the inner perimeter, casters can maintain the barrier only momentarily before it breaks itself.

Once the barrier shatters due to the caster no longer being able to maintain it for a circular area of effect, or a hole within the barrier is made by any outside force and/or the caster for an aimed cone-like effect, the following occurs:

The effect/technique compacted by the barrier is expelled violently in a potent wave. The consolidation of the barrier-trapped technique served two purposes:

  1. Techniques that would normally disperse automatically without the barrier containing them are able to persist momentarily due to sheer density.
  2. Said techniques are immensely more potent immediately after the barrier's dispelling, multiplying their effects in relation to its density.

The density of the effect/technique is decided by how much was initially poured into the barrier, alongside how small the caster was able to get the barrier before dispelling it.

The denser the sorcerer was able to get the technique the better, with the best effects usually coming from releasing nova via a small hole in the initial barrier, rather than totally dispelling it, for even further intensity.
