Daniel’s “Alien” plan

I’m trying to put a half marathon plan using Jack Daniel’s 4th edition training guide. I’m not certain how to go about “choosing “ a specific workout for the quality tempo, marathon pace, interval, etc…do I just go in order A1, A2, A3…for each week using my VDOT to guide training paces? Looking for input from anyone who’s used this plan. The book outlines 5k and marathon plans in more detail.

Cross fit and running

Anyone here try to do both cross fit and run? I’ve always been a runner first but switched to CrossFit over the winter while still running about 15 mpw. Cross fit also has a lot of 400-800m runs in the WODs at my gym. Early May I noticed that running didn’t feel as good as it used to, I had speed but lost my endurance, so I quit cross fit and went back to just running and light strength training on the side - running is feeling good again. Doing 25-30 mpw now and want to increase. The WODs wore me down too much- legs especially , and I started to develop tendinitis type pain in my arms from all the upper body stuff. I wish I could do both though because I really liked the community I got from working out with others- I don’t have people to run with.

Principal shout outs- vent

Our principal sends out weekly emails with tons of individual teacher shoutouts thanking them for various things they’ve done over the week. Should be nice- but I’m letting them get to me because I must be invisible. I stayed and set chairs up in the gym for an evening performance and she only thanked the other teacher. I led a group of students at an all district event and she thanked every teacher but me, i even organized all of the groups. I got there early to help set up and she mentioned the other teacher but not me. I had to create sub plans as well because I was needed at the event and that was extra work. I ran a training in her building for the whole staff, and again no thank you or shout out. I’m split between three buildings but so aren’t other staff and they get shoutouts. She’s always friendly to me in person. I’m super flexible, have great evaluations, etc. I do realize this post sounds petty and that I shouldn’t be evaluating my worth as a teacher by shout outs in a email, but I’d be lying if I said my feelings don’t get hurt. Any advice on how to stop caring about this because it really shouldn’t matter to me.

Summer training

My son (16) runs high school XC and plans to train with his team this summer. Last summer the coach had them do a weekly speed workout on the track, a tempo run, and a long run up to 15 miles. My concern is that they do little hill work and that the long run is too much for 25-30 mpw training. It’s been years since my days of running XC in high school and college but we ran weekly hill workouts all summer and didn’t start doing intervals on the track until we were actually in racing season. Hoping some coaches can chime in and maybe even suggest a training plan. I have Daniel’s Running formula which already tells me his long run is too intense but maybe something’s changed? He had a stress fracture last year mid season, seems too young for this type of injury.
