So far my standouts are- If you only Knew, Spit Shine, of all people, Unconditional and Asking for a friend.
There really isn't a filler or an easy skip in the album. Its fresh and surprising. They experimented with some punk ideas, turned the guitars up with really heavy instrumentals and its all welcome.
For instance Spit Shine is extremely heavy with an awesome toe tapping Futureheads-esque hook in the chorus. The classic Foo hooks are there throughout the record but this time they experimented with punk and garage sensibilities.
The production sounds pretty good too. The only critique is the title tracks vocals still doesn't vibe, same with Amen, his vocals were a bit low in the mix. But thats splitting hairs. Its alot of fun, its fresh its new, its vibrant. I really recommend rolling down the window in the car turning it up and letting it rip on the open road. If that doesn't make you feel good, nothing will! Every track is a good listen and each one has cool ideas.
I know there is a faction of negativity in the sub but I genuinely don't see why. Its the Foos without the easy listening popular anthem type songs, that I know alot of people like, so maybe thats why some folks are down, but this is exactly what I hoped considering Dave and the whole bands punk rock background. They rolled back the years and turned up the amp, rocked out and had fun with it. And the overwhelmingly good reviews backs that up. It will sound terrific live too.
God bless Dave and the Foo Fighters. See you on the summer tour wherever that may be!🤘🤘
