Correct wiring vs. Hot/ground reverse
Hi everyone. I'm not a licensed electrician and learning as I go to maintain my first home. Had all my living room outlets suddenly stop working.
A Klein tester gave me a hot/ground reverse though nobody was tampering with the outlets. Finally identified the outlet with the issue, replaced it with a new one and cut the wires for new connections. The tester now says the wiring is correct BUT when I attempt to secure the outlet to the box with the screws, the tester jumps back to hot/ground reverse. If the outlet is hanging out the box, it's fine, but when I push the outlet slightly upwards to put it in the box, I get the error.
Replaced the outlet a second time and trimmed the wires again, still getting the same issue. All wires are secure.
Any one experience this before? I would appreciate suggestions for a solution.
I'm using a Leviton 15 Amp, 125volts tamper resistant outlet.
