I’m deciding between three schools and would love honest input from people who know these places well.

My options are:

  • UC Davis (Math & Scientific Computation)
  • Texas A&M (General Engineering → ETAM later)
  • Santa Clara University (Computer Science & Engineering)
  • NYU (Computer Engineering)

I’m from California and I care a lot about internships, job outcomes, and not getting stuck in a major I don’t want.

If anyone has experience with these schools, how would you compare them in terms of:

  • major certainty (especially ETAM at A&M)
  • internship opportunities
  • cost vs value
  • campus culture and social fit
  • stress level
  • overall career outcomes

Any advice or personal experience would help a lot. I’m trying to make the best decision and I’m running out of time.

Hi! I was admitted for Math & Scientific Computation, but I’m considering switching into either Computer Engineering or Computer Science & Engineering. I would love to hear from students who actually went through the process.

A few things I’m trying to understand:

  • How competitive is it to switch into CE or CSE?
  • Are the GPA requirements strict in practice?
  • How hard is it to get into the required MAT/PHY/ENG/CS courses as a non‑engineering major?
  • Does being outside the College of Engineering make the process slower?
  • Any tips for planning first‑year classes if I want to keep the option open?

Any personal experiences or advice would help a lot. Thanks!
