Good price on a Rope chain (pawn shop)

Went by a pawn shop today for a Franco, but they only had a few used ropes. I decided to try one on and actually kind of liked it. It was 2.25-2.5mm (they didn’t have calipers, but def less than 3mm). This is the size I’ve been looking for in Franco.
It’s 14kt and 22”. Weight is 10.6g. They were asking $1550 before tax (wild—), and I talked them down to $1270 OTD. Still too high for me, as spot is around $850-900. Do you think this would be solid if I got them to $1,000 out the door?

Italian made with no stamp?

Hey guys. This might be the dumbest question asked on here this week, but I’m super new to jewelry and chains, so please bear with me. I’m working through getting my first Franco, and I found a place across the country through social media that is offering a fantastic price. He didn’t mention country of origin, so when I asked if it was Italian made he said Yes, it’s Italian. I asked if it was stamped as such and he said the size I’m requesting is made in Italy but isn’t stamped as Italian.

What does this mean? Is that even possible?

USA made vs. Italy vs. “Imported” Gold chains

hey guys. what’s the big difference (if any) between USA gold, “Italian“ Gold, or chains identified as being ”imported”? I see Italian designates being slightly higher prices over USA gold. is this just marketing? If dimensions, karat, and weight are equal, why does Italian bring more? is it worth 5-15% more?

Chains and fighting

this might be a random post, but I got to thinking today when wrestling with my 5 year old. I currently have a sub-2mm Hermes link in silver that I wear daily. he was behind me and grabbed it and yanked back as hard as he could. with only a 5 year olds strength, it almost cut my neck across the front. I’m currently in the market for a 2.5-3mm Franco and was suddenly made aware of how a chain is a massive spot of vulnerability. have you guys ever been anywhere and had it grabbed or choked with it? Will the clasps break with enough force?

hey guys. looking to purchase my first “one and done” chain for life. for religious reason, I am looking for a robust, comfortable and sturdy chain to carry a cross pendant. I’m looking to wear this 24/7 365 and in any environment (swimming, working out, sleeping, shower, etc).

I know I want 14k and 22” length. I’ve done some research and purchased a different length and widths of fake chains off amazon to see what I like. so far, I’m sold on a 2.5mm 22” Franco. the problem I have, is that the Franco is so boxy that I literally feel it “flipping” over on its edges all day. i don’t know if that’s really how they are since I’m just wearing an $8 one off eBay. are they really a completely perfect square?

does this ever get old or do you learn to not notice the sharp edges as the chain flips to a new side of the chain?

I also really like what I’ve seen called a “2.5mm Baby Curb.”. is this as robust and durable as a Franco? I’m not super crazy about rope chains.

Are there any other more rounded styles that are as thick and durable as a Franco? again, it will never be worn as a solitaire, so I need something that does well with a pendant (I’ve been told Cubans and Figgaros are not good with pendants). thanks!
