My boy has a post op infection
My boy is 11. He had a tumor on his leg. I moved forward with surgery to remove it. A couple days after surgery I noticed significant swelling on his leg back leg where the surgery was performed. The swelling goes all the way down to his foot. There was also oozing from his surgical site (still with sutures but there’s tension on the sutures now because of the significant swelling). He has trouble walking (he also had a pre exiting condition of some trembling but he was still very active prior). Now he needs assistance most time to stand up bc of the swelling. I took him yesterday back to the vet. Needle aspiration was done - infection confirmed. He didn’t have a fever at the time. Cultures were sent out (pending. Takes days) meanwhile he was started on antibiotics (today is the second day). Theres no improvement yet. Tomorrow I go in again to meet with the vet that also did the surgery. Meanwhile we are in distress. My boy is suffering. I’ve been crying nonstop and I feel helpless. I cannot mentally or physically focus on anything else but him. Does anyone have advice ?? I’m prepared for the idea that he may need surgery again to clean out the wound. Has anyone has a similar experience? Can you share ? I spend 12 hours a day lying on his pillow with him to provide comfort. I am losing my mind right now.
