Dropped a band on a wig because I’m restarting my natural hair journey
Seeking all around commiseration and advice I guess???
I have never been one for wigs because they always feel like they’re falling off my head and look unnatural, but after a few years of shaving my head on and off I’m trying to be serious about finding a middle ground between hair health and needing to prioritize my appearance at this stage of my career as a black woman with fine 4c hair! I honestly don’t mind wash and goes but there are definitely occasions I want a different look whether it’s “more polished” or just simply frames my face better, and also I get tons of single strand knots with wash and gos
Anyway — I decided to invest in my hair and I bought a custom wig, went to the hair stylist to get the measurements done, bought bundles from a separate vendor and then got the hair installed by the wig maker. In retrospect I should have found someone who primarily did wigs but I went to someone who primarily does sew ins, but they were super local, and required booking far in advance and had a non refundable deposit
All together the construction and install was 580, the closure was 180 and the bundles were 506. WELL over a band and I feel like the wig is not doing it for me. I asked for a behind the hairline closure but my hairline is pretty far back and the wig is not custom enough for behind the hairline accounting for my big forehead. If the wig is placed behind the hairline the ears are off.
I can’t even really assess the bundles quality but the yaki straight ends definitely feel like they could use some love — but I can try to fix that and dye the wig closure to max the bundles.
But in regard to the wigs fit, should I bother saying anything to the person that made and installed it? Seeing as though construction alone was like $350, I feel like saying something but I don’t wanna burn a bridge because her sew ins really do seem nice and I walked out somewhat happy even though I knew the fit didn’t feel exactly right…
