My wife and I really want to know…

Despite all the extra drama Monday night… it’s all we could talk about. We are genuinely curious, as we’ve never seen/heard of this character. I know it doesn’t matter in the end, but neither does anything else on 90DF.

Men’s running shorts…

Hey all,

BLUF: what men’s shorts have a pocket/slot in the waistband to hold my phone/music device?

I listen to tunes when I run. I’ve always used my mil-issue shorts, and shove my phone in the built-in elastic pouch in the waistband. Well, they are wearing out. I bought some UA running shorts, but my phone is all one the place in the regular pockets. Who has a solution?

Thanks.

Revenge…

5th year; AL.

It’s not unusual for me to hang out and watch my hives from a lawn chair about 25 feet away from the nearest hive. I like to watch them coming and going.

Two days ago, after putting it off for months; I finally mowed/trimmed around my hives. They hate it. Some of my hives just about vacate the box when I mow. It’s so bad. But… I got it done under protest without a single sting. It really helps with ticks and chiggers.

Fast forward to today… just sitting there with my dog watching the day go by, and… ZAP! Kamikaze sting right to the face. She gave me all of three seconds of vicious buzzing before she went for the killshot. This wasn’t a “you happened to be in my way” or “who are you” kind of incident. She remembered me from the day before when I iAd my suit in and 50 of her sisters were trying to get in. Her tone said it all. You all know that “I mean business” buzzing tone.

In hindsight… I deserved it. I did wreak havoc on their home with the noise and vibrations the day prior. And I’ve accidentally squished my fair share of bees. So… there it is. A revenge hit from the honeybee mafia. A warning shot, if you will… Don’t come back ‘round these parts.

But alas, I don’t listen. Because today I need to add a few supers!

What would you do?

5th year. Alabama.

This swarm crawled out of a productive hive. Small swarm, but I figured I would try them since the stock should good. Since then… Queen is laying, very slowly, and the bees aren’t really taking syrup OR foraging all that much. They really haven’t grown past their numbers when I caught them. So now, I’m thinking this is the Queen that was superseded and kicked out. But, not only is the Queen not motivated, but the workers are kinda lazy, too.

What would you do? Pinch and requeen? Pinch and let them build a queen? Pinch and combine them with another single brood box?

I come from a long line of beekeepers. I’m the last one left in my family that still does it. Growing up, my dad a granddad both used Shallows. Either as a horizontal nuc, or as supers. I was a kid/teenager at the time so I don’t know much more than that. They both passed in the 90s and I went into the service. Decades later, retired and back in beekeeping, I do it for the nostalgia. Much has changed. SHB, Varroa, etc. and… shallow frames and boxes have fallen out of favor? Also, mediums used to be called Illinois supers.

5 years AL USA.

5th real year, AL.

I typically pull my big harvest in June, then the rest right before the dearth. A beekeeper friend of mine pulled this last weekend (first weekend in May). Anything they get in the fall, they can keep.

I think I wait because it’s a bit of a dopamine hit seeing almost a year’s worth of work all in one haul.

When do you pull and why?

I went to elementary school in the 80s. GenX and public school. We had one, maybe two, class clowns/troublemakers in a room of 30 kids that, as I understand it now, may have had difficulty regulating their emotions. Always a boy. (Nature vs nurture also comes into play). Maybe 3-4 kids out of my class of 90ish, and they graduated with us. The rest of us pretty much just fell into line and did what we were told.

I have grandchildren in school now; and wow have things changed. I’ve been there a few times and my, have times seemingly changed. The school now employs “helpers” in each of the classes to give the kids individual attention. Talking with a few outliers, seems as though the staff is overwhelmed by behavioral issues.

Way back, my teacher’s yardstick snap was enough to silence the entire class (except of course that one kid snickering in the back)… then he got moved to the front.

Looking for your experience… what’s going on out there?

My Attila arrives to my FFL in a few days. I want to go ahead and offer my optic. What do you guys like best? I run an EPS Carry on my tiny guns and a 507 Comp on my bigger guns, so that’s all I have experience with.

Second question: where are you guys buying mags? I see AF website doesn’t sell them.
