Has anyone else noticed the condition of the fish tanks at Hero Thai-Izakaya?

I finally walked in tonight because I’ve been passing those tanks for a while and something about them kept bothering me. The water is extremely cloudy, the fish are massive for the tank size and they were all hovering near the top looking stressed. I asked staff about their care and got vague answers that honestly didn’t inspire confidence.

I know fish don’t trigger the same reaction in people that dogs or cats do but they are still living animals, not decor. Large koi/goldfish produce a huge amount of waste and need serious filtration and maintenance. Chronic poor water quality can literally poison them over time.

I’m not trying to start a witch hunt against the restaurant. I genuinely just want those fish properly cared for because the setup looked rough and it’s been sitting heavy with me since I left.

Does anyone know if there are local aquarium welfare groups, fish rescue people, or anyone in Astoria/Queens experienced with this kind of thing?
