2 week swim progress! How to get heart rate back down?

Started training for a 70.3 2 weeks ago with little experience in any of the disciplines. My first swim went as expected, no more than 50m without stopping for a 3 minute rest.

Today I swam 3km and even managed a 1350m continuous swim! I’m happy with this but I’m worried about my heart rate, I know that the swim should be easy to save energy for the bike.

So how do I train to get quicker and stay at a lower heart rate?

Currently I’ve just been alternating between drills sessions and then a session where I try to go far, should I change this?

Kristian Blummenfelt’s Strava swims

I recently followed Kristian Blummenfelt on Strava and have seen some of his swims, they are at 3-4 minute pace.

Since this wouldn’t even be zone 2 training for him, what is the benefit of this sort of training?

Rear delts and lats burning after one length

Hi all! I started swimming a week ago and, like many people, I was humbled. I couldn’t swim more than 50m and was getting extremely gassed.

Fast forward to now and I’m a little better, I can do 100m without too much hassle, feeling pretty chill especially with 2 beat kicking

Except for one thing.

My rear delts feel so sore and burning, like I’ve just done a set of flies. I’m swimming with front crawl.

Is this normal or is it something wrong with my technique? It’s annoying that the limiting factor isn’t the rear delt pain instead of my heart. I work out so I didn’t think strength would be an issue

Canyon Endurance all road for first 70.3 and future events?

Was looking at the Canyon Endurance AllRoad for my first 70.3 and maybe to keep using for a future full.

Is this a good option? Will it last me until a full or should I be looking for a higher budget

I want to start free diving and I tested my max breath hold today. It was 2 minutes 5 seconds.

I want to know if this is enough to start, or if I should somehow train it to be longer (if that’s possible). I’ve seen a lot of people on this subreddit talking about 3-4 minute holds so do I need to be at that level?

Been running for a week now. For my 4th run decided to go for a zone 2 10k. The pace was pretty slow but I guess I’m still glad I could do it.

My question is would moving to a 15k for my next longer run be a good idea? Or how should I progress from here, I’m looking to be able to do a half marathon asap

Edit: Addressing the heart rate. I was nose breathing for the majority of the run and didn’t feel particularly out of breath which made me think it was zone 2, and that the heart rate from my watch was wrong. But any advice on that would be appreciated
