Why does this happen?
On Steam, Tarkov still uses the Battlestate launcher and auth files stored in AppData. After updates, crashes, or failed logins, these cached files can become desynced or corrupted. When that happens, the launcher fails during authentication and throws post-auth / launcher errors, even though the actual game files are fine.

Fix (no full re-download):

1. Close Steam completely (also exit from the system tray)
2. Press Win + R → type %appdata% → Enter
3. Go one folder up to AppData
4. Delete the Battlestate Games folder from:
   • AppData\Roaming
   • AppData\Local
   • AppData\LocalLow
5. Go to your Tarkov Steam install folder: Steam\steamapps\common\Escape from Tarkov
6. Delete only the launcher folder
7. Restart Steam
8. Steam → Library → Escape from Tarkov → Properties → Installed Files → Verify integrity of game files
9. Launch the game

• What this does: Steam re-creates the launcher and fresh auth files, syncing them properly with your Steam install. The whole game is NOT re-downloaded; only the launcher-related files are.

This fixed the issue immediately for me after trying multiple other “fixes.”
