What do you do with your fur rooting trimmings?
I've been rooting some fur and I have already developed quite the scrap pile from trimming. What do you do with wool of all different lengths like this?

Wow the eyes look much more red on camera haha. Anyways, I wet felted the base of this frog and then needle felted the eyes.
I plan to stuff the body & legs, then fold & sew the legs into place and sew the mouth shut. I dont know how to sew, wish me luck lol
Inspired by the book bags that @winged.studio makes over on Instagram. Would love to make a bag version of this eventually. This is just kind of a prototype currently
Anatomy isnt quite right but at least he's looking like a toad so far! I worked on this for about an hour.
He will be green which isnt exactly accurate as he's meant to be an American toad, however i feel it will look nice haha.
I was felting with merino blend roving before I purchased this core wool, and the difference is astounding. I knew it would speed up the process but it really is a life saver! If you're only using long staple roving like I was, I definitely recommend getting some core wool for the base of your projects. You will cry tears of relief lol, I wish i had done so sooner
Slowly making some progress on the eastern dragon I posted about about a week ago! Got the basic shape for the head down, now im working on shaping the plating on the underside of the sky noodle.
Ive decided to add feather like scales all along the body which will take some time. The body will be a merino/bamboo/angelina blend to add some magic sparkle and shine.
I want to add locks along the topside of the dragon rather than long hair, as Im trying to go for a more whimsical appearance rather than traditional.
I'm excited to begin the clay bits, im going to try to add a lot of detail in the horns, nose, and the feet but we'll see how that goes lol.
I'll try to avoid posting again until im finished/near finished so all you lovely folks dont have to see the same piece posted several times! Thanks for checking out my work, I appreciate any motivation or feedback if you feel like giving it! Im still quite new to needle felting and this is my fourth piece im working on.
Im proud of how I color matched the horn to the hooves! Im not sure why I was struggling with such a simple sculpt, but it took me a few tries before I settled on this. Im wondering if I should add longer locks on the tail to balance things out more?
I decided to shade the body with wool i dyed myself rather than pastels, as I was nervous I would mess up adding the pigment.
The locks aren't secured yet, just "pinned" in place as I mess with what may work best. The mane still needs a lot of work and the hoof locks need to be shorter I think.
Now for the part ive been delaying..the eyes! I plan to make resin or clay eyes on wire to secure, but im wondering if I should just felt them instead? I want that almost human-like medieval look and im not sure what may work best for that.
My unicorn is in kind of an awkward stage at the moment, but I am enjoying seeing how things are progressing! I appreciate all the support I received on my last post about this project. I'll try to wait on posting this again until I am finished!
Excuse the fuzzies, I still have a lot of felting to go obviously! Ive posted this in the Felting sub but decided to make another progress post over here.
I wish i could photograph it better, but today I blended merino & falkland with bamboo silk to add a nice shine and I'm loving the results! Just a small amount of white bamboo fiber with the wool really made a big difference.
I also took a risk and added the golden bamboo silk to the hooves without blending, but the results are pretty decent! It anchored into the wool well. I love the golden shine.
I still need to add a clay golden horn, make some handmade eyes, and felt the rest of the locks onto the chin, head/neck, and ankles. I will also be adding some shading with dry pastels, but im nervous about that part!
Thanks for reading if you did, im excited as this is my third needle felted project (the other two are unfinished) and it's nice to see my progress.
Materials so far:
Merino & Falkland blend wool, bamboo combed top, Teeswater locks, chenille stems, polyester batting
My resting unicorn piece is really starting to shape up! I probably should've waited longer to attach the ears and tail but I needed to see the vision better if that makes sense haha. Still a long way to go, especially on the legs and head, but I am starting to see the vision come to life now.
Clay attachments - I already felted a horn but I dont really like it anymore, and I think i want to make one from polymer clay. I will add a wire in the center and sticking out so I can attach it properly into the wool, is this the best method? I think I'll have the wire curved to go deeper and secure a bit better. Is glue necessary, and if so what is the best kind?
Pigment powders - Ive seen many videos and posts where people have added pigment powders onto the finished felt to add depth. I would love to do this but I have a couple questions. What pigment powders are best for this? Do I dampen the powder first and spread it out with a soft brush? How do I ensure the powder remains secure and doesnt smudge too much?
Thanks for reading, I look forward to hearing advice from the wonderful people in this sub! I really appreciated the feedback on my last post regarding this piece, this community is so kind and full of great advice! :)
Sorry for my messy workspace. I started this resting unicorn a few days ago and im feeling very discouraged. I usually like to wet felt clothing pieces and this is the longest ive worked on a needle felted project. I have a few small projects that I did not fully complete but I am still pretty new to needle felting.
I just wanted some feedback from this lovely community so I feel motivated to continue. Please note I am not going for realism, this piece is inspired by medieval unicorn artwork. I dont have exact dimensions but it is ~6.5 inches from the head to the bum.
I am having trouble felting the legs. I unfortunately do not have pre-carded wool for this project, only roving with a very long staple length. I have been carding the wool in small batches but it still seems difficult to felt the smaller details with such long wool.
I am hoping for some tips and encouragement as I am starting to feel unmotivated to continue. Thank you for reading this far, and I look forward to hopefully hearing some tips from this community! :)
Materials: chenille pipes, merino/falkland blend wool, polyester batting, angelina fiber, wool locks
Will probably mess with the design a bit more but I think this little shop looks cute so far. Lily is in charge of this combo shop on my island. She takes great pride in her wide selection of books and soothing teas 📚☕️
They always spawn in the worst spots lol, but i definitely took my net out too close
The island flower shop, run by Deirdre! I tried to make it as compact as possible while also having a good bit of depth. Located outside of Nook's Cranny, next to the picnic area in the shopping district of the island ~
Includes some of my hobbies to the best of my abilities with the in game items. The fiber related items/sewing area represent my wool felting fiber arts, then there's a spot for sculpture/traditional art.
Just missing digital art and photography but I really wanted to include a cozy reading nook so I may remodel my basement to add those hobbies at some point. I love the cozy look I have going on up here and the giant window! :D
