Fliers Scattered in the Back Alley Behind The Pearl
I attended the show in Vancouver last night with my friend who arrived earlier than I did and he met the man who was distributing the fliers. I did not meet him firsthand, but my friend was handed a flier and the man indicated to him that he "believed Geordie was going to get away with it anyway and just wants to make the night shitty for him." My friend refused to take a flier, saying, "what am I supposed to do with this?" To which the man said something along the lines of: "fair point." It seems the man intended for the fliers to make their way into the venue to disrupt the show.
After the show (about 15-20 minutes after Geordie left the stage) my friend and I wandered into the alley behind the venue. What we saw was quite haunting and might explain why it took so long for Geordie to come out on stage. According to my friend as well as other testimonies, the man did not have a ticket and was simply loitering outside the venue. Seeing the way the fliers were scattered in the alley and tapes on the walls, etc. suggests he may have had some sort of altercation with Geordie, the band, or the crew, as Geordie was made aware of the fliers before the show was scheduled to start. What's even more strange is that so soon after the show there was no sign of Geordie or the band. No gear van or anything. Last year I met Greep behind the venue and the band were all hauling gear into the van for over an hour after the show, but this time it seems like they were quick to vacate. I'm not sure what exactly occurred between Geordie, the band, the flier guy, and the crew, but this is the evidence and all I saw was a security guy in his car outside the door getting in and driving away.
I want to be clear I am not aiming to make any biased statements on the matter right now, but I would like to provide relevant information that could help bring clarity to the situation before we hear more testimonies. The man seemed to be gone by the time the concert ended, and as of now his identity still seems to be unknown. Barring the veracity of any claim, the man's attitude, conduct, and M.O. seemed highly selfish and attention-seeking. It seems his motive was to create drama before Geordie left Canada instead of confronting him in a civil manner, contacting the VPD, etc. Geordie indeed gave an awkward statement to the crowd that didn't offer any real clarity, but at that point people had been standing around in the (hot and muggy) venue for close to three hours, and the people who remained were just hoping they could hear from him.
Either way, the scene in the alley behind the venue was quite eerie. I thought it might be a bit of a tense situation back there, but my curiosity naturally led me to investigate. Seems something might've went down.
