Got hit by an Omegle sextortion scam
Hey everyone. First time posting here because I could use some outside perspective.
Yesterday I was on Omegle and ended up in an explicit session with someone. I dont feel very proud about it, was my first time, and was feeling kinda lonely since my personal life became a mess lately. Felt disgusted about it after but cant change the fact that it happened.
So out of the blue the camera "glitched" and she asked to move to Instagram, then to Discord. Shortly after, she sent me screenshots of my camera during the moment, along with a screenshot of a group chat she'd created on Instagram with a couple of my friends, threatening to send them the video.
I immediately hung up, blocked her on Discord and Instagram, set my IG to private.
She kept sending threats for a bit ("I'll make you trending", "talk to me before it's too late", etc — I've seen near-identical wording in other posts here). I never responded to a single message.
Since then:
- The group chat she made with my friends disappeared on its own about 10 minutes after she sent the threat and some photos there
- Her account now shows as "user not found" when I try to look it up
- I went back on Omegle out of curiosity to see if she was still there and saw what looked like the same person/pre-recorded loop, trying to run the same scheme within 10 minutes
- It's been over 24 hours since any contact attempt from her
I've read similar stories here, but in my case i never even gave a single response to any message/threat after i figured out it was a scam, i just ignored and blocked (honestly because i was freaking out). The scammer did send the photos to that group but it was taken down fast enough so nobody saw. Im just worried about it being spread further or the scammer trying to contact again.
Should i be worried? I will keep the no contact even if they end up trying to contact with threats again.
But I'd really appreciate hearing from others who went through something similar — did the silence hold for you? Did anyone come out the other side of this and confirm nothing was ever shared further?
