Doomer behavior in feminist spaces
I’ll just start with this isn't meant to be taken as like... a super serious topic. Don't come into this expecting an academic essay. Just a little personal observation of mine that made me feel a little sad.
I feel like soooo many feminist spaces have been getting more and more and more filled with doomer behavior recently, where there's a lot of unproductive anger and bitterness, and a loss of hope for what kind of positive feminist changes we can expect to bring about as far as broader society and also interpersonally. Of course, I know that this doesn't come from nowhere. I feel like I don't have to mention any particular event specifically - we all know it's been tough recently. But I don't think it necessarily has to be this way?
I also spend time in more general queer spaces and, at least in my experience, despite everyone in those spaces still identifying as feminist, such spaces seem to avoid the kind of doom and gloom that comes with feminist-focused spaces directly. These spaces seem to (again, in my experience) be better at channeling their anger into action/support, rather than into a sense of bitter hopelessness. If anyone else has the same experience, I'd love to hear your thoughts as to why this might be the case.
Or maybe I'm just talking out of my ass. Let me know lol.
