New wheels for JOnsey boi

New wheels for JOnsey boi

what a day.... I thought I really liked my swb until today. After finally assembling the last pieces of a 29"carbon wheel build, I mounted the tires and went out for a cruise. The onyx Veper hub was a dream to pedal, the instant engagement reminds me of riding a fixed gear, the feeling is a truly direct connection between my feet and the rubber against the earth. I noticed this the most on little hops and tight hairpin turns. The compliant yet firm engagement has an organic feel as opposed to the metallic kind of feeling you get when the pawls on other hubs engage, you truly must ride one to get an idea of how awesome they are. Being my first set of carbon wheels, I didn't have any expectations in particular for the rims and the 29" wheels carry speed far better than the stock 27.5 set that the swb comes specc'd with. They seem stiff and yet a little compliant through the rough rocky forest roads and singletrack... overall I'm very very pleased with this build. 10/10 would recommend BTLOS i45 wheels if you need a wide rim for your plus bikes, they were very quick to respond to emails and kept me in the loop about the process and shipping updates. The best part about this ride was getting to fall in love with the swb all over again the 29" wheels really help this frame shine, super playful, super stable, these wheels turned this bike into even more of a smile inducing machine, Jeff Jones really has figured out how make a bike that makes me feel like a little kid again.

New wheels Day 1st ride on Onyx Vesper

Maiden voyage on the Btlos i45 t800 build... and first ride with a 29 wheelset on the Swb... I like this bike even more than I did yesterday. The 29x3/2.8 maxxis tire gobble up chopy, rocky, dusty, sandy logging roads and the 29 inch wheels carry momentum far better than the 27.5's, i knew this would be the case, but didn't expect it to be as drastic of difference. And to anyone thinking about an onyx sprague clutch hub... BUY IT. the gentle yet instant engagement makes the bike ride quite a bit like a fixed gear with the fluidity of a solid connection between pedals and wheels (at least in a forward direction). I'm silly in love with this bike, The btlos wheels are ride really nicely as well, not to stiff but stiff and really responsive.

don't forget to ride your bike today

New i45 Btlos carbon wheels for the swb!

Hello fellow bike nerd kooks, I Recently commissioned a 29" carbon wheel build for the swb. After checking a few Carbon wheel manufacturers, I settled on Btlos, their prices were great during Chinese new year and they offered a premium option using only Toray 800 carbon for the layup with a 3 year warranty. They had options for spoke drilling, center/off-center. After some emails with their customer support team, I ended up going with center drill for the rear and of course the front. they were able to drill the valve hole for schrader at 8mm. If anyone is in the market for a budget (lol it's insane how much carbon wheels can cost) carbon fiber wheelset for a Jones, I would highly recommend checking out Btlos. Quick communication and very quick to fix an error they made on one of the wheels, (one wheel came drilled for presta and one for schrader). Here's a photo of the swb with a 29" front and the stock 27.5 alloy rear. I'm still trying to decide if I want to swap out the vesper rear hub to HG driver or upgrade the frame to 12 speed and use the micro spline driver that came with the vesper rear hub. has anyone had any luck fitting a 29x2.8 or 3" tire on the rear of the current swb frame?

soo far the carbon wheel feels great up front, hard to give a detailed review of the ride quality as I'm running a 3" minion DHR at 11 psi but with the current mullet setup, the steering feels a bit less twitchy in a good way and the DHR grips like velcro in our sandy volcanic moondust summer dirt. I'm super excited to get the rear wheel mounted once I decide what route to take with the hub/drivetrain.

And I have an extra 45mm internal/50mm external width 29" carbon 32h rim drilled for presta if anyone needs one, hit me up.

get outside and ride!

Cheers!
