WoWS Builds Update! – New site, no ads, cleaner records, and a Comparison Tool I hope you'll like!

Hey everyone – long time no see,

I've been heads-down on WoWS Builds for a while and it's finally time to share some updates.

TL;DR: New site — faster, cleaner UI. Ads are gone for good, site is now 100% member-supported. Records got a big cleanup pass, Biggest new feature: a Ship Comparison tool that plots any two metrics against each other, across classes, tiers, and nations.

1. The site got a full overhaul

New layout, faster page loads, and a UI that's more intuitive instead of something you have to learn. If it's been a minute since you've been on the site, it's going to feel like a different place (in a good way, I hope!)

2. Ads are gone. For good.

I hate ads. They slowed the site down, I had no control over what was shown, and made the whole experience worse, so I ripped them out entirely. The only benefit was they helped cover the cost of hosting / verifications / etc.

That said, WoWsBuilds is now 100% member-supported. Huge thank you to everyone who's already a paying member ($19/year) — you're the reason this is possible.

3. Records cleanup + smarter submission scanning

I did a big cleanup on the records database — removed a ton of duplicates, cleaned up Arena records, and upgraded the AI that scans new submissions before they go live. The goal is to make the records on this site something you can actually trust, which I wasn't delivering on recently. There's still more cleanup to do, but this was a major step toward making the data reputable instead of just plentiful

4. The big one — the new Comparison Plot

This is the feature I'm most excited about, and honestly the reason this update took as long as it did.

Here's how it actually works: pick a class and tier (say, Tier VIII Cruisers), then set what goes on each axis — any two metrics, like Hitpoints, AP DPM, HE DPM, damage records, and XP records. The plot drops every ship in that class/tier onto the chart so you can see exactly where each ship falls relative to the whole field. You can search for a specific ship, or filter down by nation if you just want to compare one navy's lineup.

Some use cases to get you started:

See a whole tier at a glance. Set the class to Cruiser, tier to VIII, and axes to Hitpoints vs. AP DPM, and every Tier VIII cruiser in the game shows up on one chart. You can immediately see who's trading survivability for burst damage and who's doing neither well. The ships clustered low-left are the ones that look mediocre on paper and just aren't standing out on either stat.

XP as the tiebreaker. Two ships can have similar damage records but very different XP – plotting DPM (or any input metric) against XP records shows you which ships are converting output into games actually won and contributed to, versus which ones are padding damage in games that don't matter.

Finding outliers. Because you're plotting the whole field at once, the ships that break the trend line jump out visually...the cruiser with mediocre HE DPM but disproportionately high damage records, for example. Those outliers are usually the most interesting ships to actually dig into and figure out why.

Basically: if you've ever wondered "does X stat actually matter, or is it just a good-on-paper number," this is the tool to answer it yourself instead of taking someone's word for it..

Let me know if you run into any bugs or have feature requests. Thanks again to everyone supporting the site – this wouldn't exist without you.
