We may not have high tree diversity in any one stand around here, but we make up for it with topography. I counted 12 species on a 12-mile hike in the Cascades: Douglas fir; western redcedar; western and mountain hemlocks; Pacific silver and noble firs; western white, lodgepole, Ponderosa, and whitebark pines; Engelmann spruce; and Pacific yew. Not bad!
