So I change my mind, this game is really good.
I played at launch and thought what was there was good, but so much stuff missing made it almost a bad game. Even watching kingsglave and the anime I never really enjoyed the game like I should of. I think part of that was the promises that were made and then what we received in the final product was totally different.
So nearly a decade later a pop open FFXV, this time royal edition, and watch the movie again and anime. This time my expectations aren't plaguing my experience and I'm REALLY getting into the game. The open world is awesome, the story is intriguing, and the party members really have a great bond that's unique in video games. I'm about 25 hours in getting ready to approach the 2nd half of the game and I've done nearly every hunt, explored a huge chunk of the map, and did all side quests I could find outside fetch quests. I know there's more to discover and I'm excited to do so.
I think the main reason is I actually love Noctis as a video game character, and his friends really make the dynamic of traversing the world awesome. I know I still have to finish it and the 2nd half can be a jarring difference but honestly I didn't mind it. I liked the more narrative style structured settings after being in the open world and done all the exploring I want. Kind of weird how a second playthrough of a game you were disappointed with can be so enjoyable.
