A lesson of life in volleyball

Hello everyone, I am a quiet person here in this subreddit, but I would like to share a message out here that I will probably go out and tell my young students that I am teaching for the first time as a first year coach. They will be attending their first regional beach volleyball championship for boys U12, which they qualified for by being in the top 4 every tournament.

I noticed their statures changing and emotions going extremely low when meeting their rival opponents who finished these tournaments every time in the first place positions.

Volleyball and all sports for that matter teach us a great lesson that is hard to learn in life, a message that some of us don’t get to learn until it’s already too late for it.

We reach for the win without understanding our own situation and backgrounds that we come from, some of us don’t get the best gifts, coolest cars, biggest houses, freshest sneakers and being the tallest person on the court. We prioritise winning and being number one out of anything while not even noticing our own achievements that we have made in life. Do not compare yourself and your accolades to others and their achievements and instead embrace the fact you are here because of your own decisions and prowess.

It is about you falling down and getting yourself back up when it hurts, when you’re tired, when there is nothing but sand and sun in your eyes and you’ve been doing that all year long maybe without even noticing.
I don’t care about the technique, because I’ve been drilling about moving with your feet towards the ball all year long.

This is about you enjoying where you are now and looking back to where you were.
