FIVB/USAV Rules and Case for this Reaching Beyond the Net fault by backrow setter
Does anyone have referenced rules/cases in both FIVB and USAV for this fault?
When a back-row setter is going up to play the ball at or near the net, what are the potential faults that the R1 should be on the lookout for?
Please help fix my setting form :)
Here is a minute of me setting from various places on the court at game speed.
Please give me advice on how to improve and try to be as specific as possible on ones that look good versus bad and exactly what I could do to correct any of my bad habit or reinforce any good ones (if I have any).
Only been playing for a few months so anything helps and I appreciate anyone who watches and gives feedback :)
EDIT: For clarity, despite what it looks like, I am not trying to jump set. I developed that weird hop habit when I felt like I wasn’t getting enough power behind my sets. Please point me to how to break this habit and what I could focus on to get that power without thinking I need to hop (form wise, not just wrist strength)
How bad is my jumping serve technique? It’s pretty consistent, but mostly can’t get enough power to the swing
Vert guesstimate
what do you guys think my vert is? i am 5’4 and have been training it for a little while now. The camera angle is very low so the jumps can look better than they are
A lesson of life in volleyball
Hello everyone, I am a quiet person here in this subreddit, but I would like to share a message out here that I will probably go out and tell my young students that I am teaching for the first time as a first year coach. They will be attending their first regional beach volleyball championship for boys U12, which they qualified for by being in the top 4 every tournament.
I noticed their statures changing and emotions going extremely low when meeting their rival opponents who finished these tournaments every time in the first place positions.
Volleyball and all sports for that matter teach us a great lesson that is hard to learn in life, a message that some of us don’t get to learn until it’s already too late for it.
We reach for the win without understanding our own situation and backgrounds that we come from, some of us don’t get the best gifts, coolest cars, biggest houses, freshest sneakers and being the tallest person on the court. We prioritise winning and being number one out of anything while not even noticing our own achievements that we have made in life. Do not compare yourself and your accolades to others and their achievements and instead embrace the fact you are here because of your own decisions and prowess.
It is about you falling down and getting yourself back up when it hurts, when you’re tired, when there is nothing but sand and sun in your eyes and you’ve been doing that all year long maybe without even noticing.
I don’t care about the technique, because I’ve been drilling about moving with your feet towards the ball all year long.
This is about you enjoying where you are now and looking back to where you were.
Help with hitting form
Any feedback is appreciated , mostly looking at getting clean swings , cause my shoulder is definitely feeling it two days after.
Molten Beach Volleyball advice
Hey everyone I'm looking to buy some Molten Beach Volleyball after not being impressed by the Wilson optx. I was looking at a couple and was wondering if anyone has experience with these in terms of durability and feel. I know they are not as popular but I just want to try something new.
I'm still pretty new to volleyball so I'm open to other brands but can't find an outdoor/beach volleyball that has that grip feel like the indoor flistatecs.
Only at 6'5
I'm just impressed by howe, an undersized middle but has a towering block. The best part is howe can also fly😭

GENERAL INFO
Check in on the app the night before or morning of ahead of time. Courts are numbered sequentially generally though court maps are very helpful. There is a little tag on each net that has the court's number.
Bringing your own shade is highly recommended, as is sunscreen. Pop-up tents can be set up around the outsides of the play areas, these tents will end up being 2, 3,4, and 5 layers deep. Be friendly with your neighbors and respectful of others belongings. Make friends with those around you, it's one of the best parts of the Boatride!
Mobile connectivity is spotty at best. Look at maps and courts ahead of time.asknyour neighbors with help recording scores of your phone doesn't work, or visit one of the few tournament tents set up around the site.
Record your scores on the website/app. Every year there are teams that get DQed because they don't record a score or aren't where they need to be in a timely manner. You will have other courts' balls on your court...stop play for safety's sake, and just replay the point if there is any question.
The main courts and bleachers have moved this year. There is more seating than in years past, but do not rush onto courts to get seating or a better view, it turns into a mess every year.
No pets. No bikes, scooters, mopeds, etc.
FOOD & DRINKS
Food and drinks will be available for purchase. Free drinking water is available throughout the grounds for the players and spectators.
To support Brighton Acres and its fantastic venue, coolers, kegs, and carry-ins will no longer be permissible at the Center Court matches or inside the main building. Brighton will have plenty of staff in the arena to serve your needs. Backpacks are subject to search. Please be respectful of this rule, as we like hosting the tournament at this venue.
There are food vendors, but lines get quite long. Many people bring coolers with everything they need for the day.
GENERAL ADMISSION/SPECTATORS
Spectators are free, there is no general admission fee.
PARKING
In lieu of charging admissions, there is a daily parking fee of $20 per vehicle.
Plan accordingly, it takes time to park all the vehicles and to walk to the courts and set up, be sure to leave plenty of time for yourself.
How can I improve my approach and swing
My arm swing is so ass and I’m tryna fix it while my approach I need to drive up harder Fs but it’s so much harder to swing with how long my arms are
Day 2 of playing volleyball, is this normal?
I m still learning so my technique probably wouldn’t be the BEST but I can hit the ball atleast and serve okay. I do have sensitive skin so idk if it’s normal, it doesn’t itch though. But yes my bones kinda hurt (tiny bit). Will the ball stop feeling heavy on my arm over time? Are there any tips I can do to prevent red spots?
How high was the jump for this ball?
I was going through old photos and realized it looks like I jumped high in this photo from 4 years ago, but there's no way I jumped as high as it looks. Looks like 2.5 feet by guessing it's a little before the jump's peak, but I can barely get that now with playing sports almost every day, and regular gym + cardio, so getting it back then seems hard to believe. What would a fair estimate be for the vertical?
Trajectory visualization from Hudl - what do I make of it?
This visualization is from Hudl. It has an option to show trajectories of various actions. In this image, it shows the trajectories of the dig actions that it has detected for the Libero. Aside from being a cool visualization, what do I make of it? For a Libero, should the trajectory paths bunch up where the setters normally position? In this team, the setters are normally in quadrants 2 and 4.
How do I start?
Look, im gonna be honest.
I've always wanted to play a team sport and have something athletic going on for me besides the gym. And I think volleyball is the sport for me. However I have question people have propably asked alot here. How the hell do I start playing and actually getting good, or atleast get some basic skills in. I know the basic rules and sort of how to make contact with the ball, but rotations, strategies, and even actually making contact with the ball is dark magic for me.
I don't want this post to be a vent about my sorrows, so let me be clear once again
I'm a lean, athletically built teen, and I want to start playing volleyball. How and where do I start, and how do I get over the fear of dissapointing my teammates etc.
Im really sorry if it violates the FAQ rule but I dont think this question is mentioned.
Thank you everyone in advance
Jump serve. (Can someone help figure out how fast?)
I've tried figuring out the speed of my serves but its pretty difficult to do so without a speed gun... Im guessing maybe high 80's maybe 90s?
Vertical?
Not a great photo but can anyone give me a rough idea of my vertical? For reference I’m 6’4 and my standing reach is 8 feet
Find Volleyball near you!
Hey r/volleyball
As both an organizer and player I've always found it difficult to find places to play volleyball, especially when travelling. Meetups and open gyms are scattered among various apps (Meetup, Reclub, Facebook Groups, Instagram), excel spreadsheets and word of mouth.
So I decided to design a solution..
https://findvolleyball.app/ is a free website, no ads, community driven map that allows you to find places to play Volleyball near you. Filter by things like indoor/grass/beach, paid vs free, and days of the week.
If you know of a meetup in your area that plays volleyball please consider hitting Add Listing. This site isn't meant to replace the apps we use to organize our sessions, listings will have an external link to them. Feedback and feature requests are welcomed!
Mods: I don't make any money from site traffic and there are no advertisements. I just have a "buy me a coffee link". I've posted this as a genuine tool for the community, not trying to advertise.
Best places to travel to get better at volleyball?
Hi all,
I'm currently based in the UK and work remotely, so I'm thinking about spending around a month abroad purely to improve my volleyball and make some new friends in the volleyball community.
I'm beginner/intermediate level (I've been playing consistently for about a year) and I'm mainly looking to get as many quality reps as possible. A few things I'm looking for:
Good coaching or clubs that are welcoming to new players.
Opportunities to train 3–5 times a week.
Open gyms or beach volleyball to get extra touches outside of training.
A time zone that's no more than 2–3 hours ahead of the UK so I can still work normal hours.
Cost of living isn't a concern.
Which city or country would you choose? I'd also love to hear any recommendations for specific clubs, camps, or communities
