Any thoughts on body mass affecting performance? To what degree?

Hi, y'all, HS female here playing Lib/DS or Right side.

What do you guys think about body mass affecting play, since volleyball needs a lot of agility + jumping?

I understand that training and working out are most effective! But I've been working out for years, even before I started volleyball (I did martial arts competitively), and I'm one of the strongest/athletic players on the court.

I'm abt 5'4 126lb, and though this might look different on people, I do look a bit chubby. I want to be faster and quicker on my feet. Have any of you found that losing weight helps with those things? Is it simply better to focus on training and technique?

Tips for liberos on how to change mindset + perform like I do in drills

Hi! High school female libero here.

I used to play setter, but my coach got me into playing libero starting this season(which starts next week).

I've been training with my coach for about 6 months now. I'm pretty good during drills--I can dive, chase, dig, etc. But during scrimmage or practice games, I have two problems.

  1. I think I lack the "libero mindset", like, I unconsciously expect other people to take the ball...

  2. I can't do the things I did in drills (like diving for a ball that was unexpected, like a tip).

Considering I'm a beginner libero, can anyone give me advice on how to change this mindset? Is it a matter of experience? I'm feeling a mental block. Thanks!!
