A humble guide for Nier replicant on potato PC (low resolution+ lossless scaling)

A humble guide for Nier replicant on potato PC (low resolution+ lossless scaling)

#Summary:

We are going to reduce the resolution to 800x600(or 1024x768) + lossless scaling to fix the aspect ratio and sharpness. It gives me a stable 30 fps fullscreen game with watchable graphics.

I'M NOT A MODDER, SO I CAN'T ADD CUSTOM TEXTURES N ALL.

#My specs :

Intel Core i3-1115G4 (11th Gen, 2 cores / 4 threads)

Intel UHD / Intel Xe Graphics

8 GB ram(1x8)

**IMPORTANT**: I'M USING A 16:9 MONITOR.

** Follow the steps below** :

**Step 1: in game settings** :-

•Make everything to lowest.

•Turn on performance mode.

•Turn on windowed mode (not fullscreen)

**Step 2: in file.ini settings** :-

Documents\My Games\NieR Replicant ver.1.22474487139\

Then inside, open UserProfiles folder, then the .ini file inside.

Open with notepad.

Change the width and height to 800 and 600. (or 1024x768).

[**∆ additional notes**: I have tried other resolutions but the game doesn't recognise them. The only workable i found are these 2 and i won't recommend going more below form 800x600]

**Step 3: lossless scaling** :-

"Lossless scaling" on steam or get from #£(#@ sites. Just remember to get the 3.x version.

As you have already guessed the game's aspect ratio is messed up for the previous step. If you are using the 800x600 aspect ratio, just copy these settings -

For 800x600 (Recommended):

· Scaling Mode: Custom

· Custom Scale Factor: 2.4

· Scaling Type: LS1 or FSR (try both with performance on)

· Frame Generation: OFF (crucial for low-end PCs)

· Sharpness: 1-3(adjust to taste)

· Capture API: DXGI or wgc (make queue target=0)

(Don't use frame genaration and sync mode)

For 1024x768, make the Scale Factor: 1.9

[**∆ additional notes**: dxgi and wgc gives different results for different PC, so try both to see which one is better. LS1 is generally better than FSR but also try out FSR. You can increase the sharpness as you want because the performance drop is minimal.]

**Step 4: rivatuner** :-

This step is not mandatory but having a constant FPS is better. Rivatuner(+MSIafterburner) is light and works great. Special k has a lot of hassle with its configurations and fullscreen mode that can crash the game if not used correctly.

You can get MSIafterburner from Google.

Launch MSI(u can get manual configurations on internet as ur liking) Open the rivatuner and click add. Select nier replicant. Then limit the frame to 30 fps (Or more).

# Game launch

  1. Launch the game first (stay in windowed mode)

  2. Open Lossless Scaling (as administrator)

  3. Click "Scale" (5-second countdown starts)

  4. Immediately click back into the game window before the countdown ends

**Hex coding** : I have tried hex coding. But the black bars didn't go after multiple changes. Most of the time the bars didn't go but the resolution was rising and causing performance issues.

If you are expert in this, you may try and get more FPS by making a native aspect ratio.

[**Personal experience**: the game was running at 22-25 fps with a slow animation speed. But after doing all this the game is hitting 32-37 fps with normal speed but i have limited it to 30 fps for a constant value] the visual is shown below -
