Building my first rig

I'm a new convert from guitar to bass. I play a Sterling Ray4 HH. Currently, I am running it through my '78 Silverface Twin ultra linear 135W with a master volume. I don't want to lug that thing around and I don't want to blow the speakers when I turn the master up past 4 or 5. I'm looking for vintage style jazz, blues, organ trio, classic rock, jamband type tones, but I'm a thousand percent more interested in the pocket that getting into the weeds about tone I play at open jams and am trying to put together a tight, groovy quartet centered around a Fender Rhodes or B3.

The way I see it, I have two options:

  1. Pull the Twin Head into a separate cab and build a new bass cab to pair it with. Moving the 2 12s to a new cab as well would allow me to have a three piece modular rig that is reasonably portable for guitar and/or bass. Big pro.

B. Building a whole new bass rig. I currently use a QSC USA 850 to power my PA. My guy in town has a good supply and these are cheap, rugged, reliable push 270 watts per side at 8 ohms (425@ 4) and are multipurpose. I'd pair this with something like a Demonfx Microtubes D7K Ultra V2 Bass Preamp Effect Pedal, and a separate bass cab. This option leaves my vintage gear intact but forces me to decide what I'm taking at that moment.

So, the questions are: which option? What speakers and cab design would pair best with each option? And, why do fools fall in love?
