God was an abusive boyfriend to Job
I’m sorry if this isn’t a debatable topic per-say. I’m usually in the björk subreddit so i hope this is the right place to get my thought out!
Imagine you have a friend with a good life including a job, a house, children, and a husband she loves. Suddenly she loses her job out of nowhere(resulting in the loss of the house), the kids get taken away by cps, and she is continuously getting sick with no explanation every time her husband cooks. As her friend you beg her to leave this man as this is clearly not a good situation. She tells you that “he loves me” and that everything happening is just a part of a surprise her husband said she’ll get after a while. After years of abuse and your friend is within an inch of her life, her husband buys her 2 houses and 3 dogs to replace the 3 kids they lost.
Come to find out he made a bet with his friends that she will continue to love him no matter what he puts her through. His friends called into her job and got her fired, they made anonymous tips to cps making unsubstantiated claims of abuse, and purchased poison for him to put in her food at dinner. The reason for this “test” was because they claimed the only reason she loves him is because of what he gives her and that this should prove if shes a gold digger or not. I think we can all agree that this is an objectively awful scenario with an even worse pay off.
Would you be proud of your friend for staying all this time because EVENTUALLY she got some of her things back after all her husband and his friends put her through?
This is a lesson we’re constantly taught in the Bible book of Job. Satan said to God that ppl only worship him because of all the alleged good things they get from serving him. Satan killed all 10 of Job’s kids, gave the guy LEPROSY, and ruined his crops for years so he had no way of making money. During all of this Job thinks it’s God doing but continues to serve him to his wife’s(the mother of their 10 DEAD children) dismay. After all of this loss, God comes back and tells Job that this was a test and that he won because clearly he loves God for him. I was taught that we need to endure through trials not because of what God can do for us but because of our genuine love for him. However if a human did this to you it would be clearly a sign of extreme psychological abuse.
God eventually gave Job back his crops and made the leprosy go away but he didn’t even bring the children back to life!!!! He just “allowed” Jobs wife to make 10 new kids to replace the dead ones. How is that supposed to be an inspirational story?? Stay with God because you love him not because he gives you things so that when he “lets” you go through hell and back you’ll be grateful for the things he does give you when you show how loyal you are.
