Gender Ignosticism
I would like to describe my vision of being outside the gender system and give it a name
It bothers me that the fact that I do not consider gender to be an essential part of my self-identification, and therefore do not use it, still allows people around me to classify me as a non-binary person.
TL;DR: I’m proposing the term “gender ignosticism” for the view that the question of gender is irrelevant to one’s self-identification because the concept is too ill-defined or not personally meaningful. It’s different from agender because it’s not an answer within the gender system, but a position on the system itself.
I will use the experience of creating the term “igtheism/ignosticism” to solve this problem. The author (of original term) formulates this term not as part of self-definition within the system of positions regarding God, but as a certain view of the entity under consideration.
By this analogy, the statement “a person with [my position] is a non-binary person” is incorrect because this person does not consider themselves within the gender system. You can talk about their personal opinion regarding this system, but not their belonging to it. I would call this view “gender ignosticism.”
Delving further into gender ignosticism, this position is not about finding a new “answer” to the question “what is your gender,” but about showing that the question itself is irrelevant to the individual.
A gender ignostic states: “I do not consider gender to be a necessary part of self-identification because the very concept of gender is not sufficiently clear or necessary for the given purpose.”
It is worth adding:
No, I’m not trying to say that agender people who identify that way are wrong and should stop using the term “agender.” I’m just trying to create something new for myself and for those who might also be searching for an answer.
