Considering a first snake

I’m in the UK and in the research phase of getting a snake. Hoping for some guidance.

So far, the nearest reputable exotic vet is about 1.5 hours away via public transportation. In an emergency I could hire a taxi and get there in 30-45 minutes. Is that a reasonable distance for a pet snake?

I am really interested in Boedan capensis (Cape House Snake). Besides being stunning and a good size for my flat, they seem really hearty and beginner friendly. Obviously, any snake I’d get would be captive bred. However, I could really use some tips on what sorts of questions to ask to ensure I find a reputable breeder.

I know an adult female house snake can reach up to 120cm in length which seems ideal for me. To ensure a good quality of life is that the enclosure size I should be aiming for and letting a juvenile grow into it? So that the snake can fully stretch out as an adult. Does anyone have any tips for selecting an enclosure that would be escape proof for a juvenile snake? They have a reputation for being escape artists when young. Also, I have a cat so will need to ensure that kitty can’t get in or hurt themselves on any cords, lighting, or heat elements. Cat proofing advice would also be appreciated.
