I requested a day of personal leave to take a family member I live with to a hospital appointment, which will more than likely (for all i know) take the entire day due to hospital wait times.

Management denied the request and said the time off would need to come from my annual leave instead.

From what I can see on Fair Work, employees can take personal/carer’s leave to care for or support an immediate family or household member. In this case, it’s my sibling who requires my help for the day.

Is management wrong here, or are they allowed to force me to use annual leave instead?
