Yes it can use apps now, but couldn't it kinda already do it before?

It can send texts, it can mark stuff in your calendar, sure.

But couldn't it already do it before?

It can proactively prompt you with something from your Gmail or calendar when needed

But isn't that just basically magic cue?

I don't get what's so huge about this
