RF Modulator Creation for HDMI to Coaxial Conversion.
Good day everyone. I am trying to create an RF modulator as a learning experience for a project I am working on. The intention is to convert an HDMI signal from a Raspberry Pi to coaxial RF to display on a CRT television. While I have seen various off-the-shelf solutions for this, I would like to learn more about circuitry and IC use to bolster my knowledge.
My understanding of this project is that I will need to configure a series of connectors, resistors, wires, and IC components onto a board and solder them into place. Currently the plan is to use an HDMI connector (undecided) -> TMDS decoder (ADV7611BSWZ) -> codec (CS4270-CZZ) -> modulator (MC44BS373CAEF) -> coaxial connector (undecided). I got this solution and the part numbers from this tutorial/explanation on Flywing Tech so I am not married to any of the components specifically and I would take any advice on sourcing different ones. The main points of this post are to: A) seek confirmation that these components will interface correctly and produce the expected result of HDMI to coaxial signal conversion B) seek advice on the HDMI and coax connectors - I have seen an array of each and my lack of experience does not allow me to understand which will not work for this application. From my perspective, one of the HDMI breakout connectors would be easily added to a perfboard and make all/most of the pins accessible for connection. I am stumped on the coax one as I am not sure what all needs to be connected to the board/ICs.
Due diligence: I have read the sidebar, posting etiquette, list of appropriate topics, wiki, etc. I am utilizing the beginner resources/guides to increase my knowledge of soldering, wiring, etc. and I don't intend for this post to be "help me make a modulator." I would like to focus more on compatibility and viability of identified components so I can purchase them and have them on hand when I am trying to understand how this circuit works. Then I can follow up with specific questions later on how to create the circuit if I hit a hurdle! Apologies if I missed a resource that may answer my question(s).
