There's something in this series that don't get it.

It's the relationship between Yuzuki and Saku after Vol 2. I recently started reading Vol 3, and according to the english translation I read:

• Yuzuki calls Saku her ex-boyfriend.
• There's a moment where Yuzuki gives her "ex-boyfriend" a bottle of water because she doesn't want to see him cry, Saku wishes that the two of them have never broken up, then she tells him to stay strong in order to prevent his feeling from getting hurt or something like that.
• Yuzuki is told by Saku about Asuka after having dinner in Saku's place, and i realise that she has no problem about that, she even kindly supports him to help Asuka.

So here are my question which I've been wondering for a while:

• Do those two cuties actually fall in love with each other while pretending to be a couple, then they decide to stop pretending and break up with each other the same time?
• ...Or the English translation I read is not translated correctly, those cuties just simply stop pretending to be a couple without seeing each other as their exes?

Since I've been hearing a lot of fans saying that they might be a real couple in the end, but exes can't return to be their exes' lovers again without making the relationship toxic (unless you can live more than 1000 years).

That's why I asked, if I might have made a mistake in understanding their relationship. Hope you can help me, Yuzuki's my favourite character.
