So I have been accepted for a 6 month transfer program in a Swiss university, and I naturally need to apply for a Type D visa as told by them.

I see that the requirements show that I need a banking statement that shows I can support myself with a sum of about 10500 CHF.

My current bank in the United States is a local bank with no branch in Switzerland, does that mean I have to open a Swiss bank account in order to get the banking statement for my visa, and is there any way to avoid doing so? I’ve asked the Swiss consulate in New York to no avail thus far.
